This Affordable Turntable System Makes Listening to Vinyl Easy

Majority is a British company that specializes in affordable audio gear, such as bookshelf speakers, portable speakers and music streaming systems.

In celebration of Record Store Day, happening April 18th (this Saturday), the brand has introduced two new products that, when working together, make listening to vinyl easy. And yes, they’re both relatively inexpensive.

Meet the Auto turntable and the D50X powered speakers.

Let’s start with the turntable.

As its name suggests, the Auto is a fully-automatic, belt-drive turntable with a built-in phono preamplifier. This means that you can connect it directly to any powered speaker and listen to vinyl.

The fact that it’s a fully automatic turntable means that, after setting the record, you simply press play and the turntable does the rest of the work for you. It lifts the tonearm and drops the stylus. Then, when the record ends, the tonearm goes back to its resting perch, and the turntable stops.

The Auto has a few other tricks up its sleeve. Most notably, it has built-in Bluetooth and can wirelessly pair and stream your vinyl records to a pair of Bluetooth headphones or speakers (like the D50X).

Additionally, the Auto supports USB recording, so you can hook the turntable up to your computer to digitize your records and listen to them later.

Now, the speakers.

The D50X is a compact powered speaker system that’s pretty versatile. Naturally, the speakers have built-in Bluetooth so you can stream audio to them directly from your smartphone … or the Auto turntable.

But they also have a range of wired inputs (including HDMI ARC, optical, USB and AUX) so you can physically hook them up to your computer, TV or other audio source (like a CD player). There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack for when you want a more private listening session.

Naturally, the speakers aren’t big (or expensive), so I wouldn’t expect the sound to blow you away. That said, the little system does output 60 watts of power and promises to sound bigger than it is.

And lastly, the speakers come in five different colors, including black, white, green, maroon and pink, so you can have a little fun with the look of your system.

Price and availability

Majority’s Auto turntable and the D50X powered speakers can be purchased as a pair or individually. They’re available now from Majority and selected UK retailers. At the time of writing, US availability has not been released.

The Auto turntable costs £130 (roughly $175), and the D50X speakers cost £70 (or $95).
