Andover Audio is a Boston-based hi-fi company that’s best known for its flagship all-in-one turntable called the Andover One ($2,499). It combines the record player, amplifier, preamplifier and speaker system into a single compact design, eliminating complicated setup process of a traditional turntable-based hi-fi system.

Basically, it makes listening to vinyl super easy.

Now, Andover Audio is releasing another all-in-one turntable called the SpinPlay, which is a significantly more affordable alternative to the brand’s flagship model. Plus, it has a pretty unique design.

A superior all-in-one turntable

For those unfamiliar, all-in-one turntables have a pretty negative reputation for not sounding great. Since all the components are crammed into close quarters, they vibrate each other leading to distortion and, ultimately, not great audio quality.

The speaker has been integrated with proprietary tech that cancels out unwanted vibrations that would typically lead to distortion.

However, Andover Audio combats this problem by integrating its turntables and turntable speakers (called the SpinBase, which is designed to sit under a turntable) with proprietary “IsoGroove” technology, which uses optimized bracing and advanced DSP to minimize these unwanted vibrations.

Basically, it helps Andover Audio’s all-in-one turntables sound much better than cheaper models. And its new SpinPlay has been built with this same advanced tech.

The SpinPlay is the latest addition to the company’s Spin Collection, and it appears to be a turntable that’s been placed directly on top of one of the company’s SpinBase speakers.

As for this speaker, it’s a four-speaker system that consists of two four-inch woofers and two 0.75-inch silk down tweeters. It promises to output 70 watts of power and deliver a 270-degree sound.

Andover Audio also makes this SpinStand ($269) for housing the SpinPlay turntable.

On the back of the speaker are various inputs — line, optical digital and USB flash-drive — for connecting the SpinPlay to larger hi-fi systems and playing store music.

The speaker also supports two-way Bluetooth, allowing you to stream vinyl to other Bluetooth-enabled headphones or speakers, as well as stream music to the speaker when you’re not playing vinyl.

Travel-friendly vinyl playback?

On top of the SpinPlay sits a semi-automatic belt-drive turntable that features auto power-on and auto-stop functions. It has a cast aluminum platter, a balanced tonearm and a preinstalled Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge.

On the speaker is a large tactile knob for volume control. Additionally, there’s a hidden LED display integrated in the speaker that illuminates to show volume, input and various settings.

The SpinPlay actually has a unique portable design — thanks, in large part, to this hardcover — so you can technically travel with it.

Maybe the most interesting thing about the SpinPlay is that it’s designed to be portable. It has a solid construction and a hardtop cover, so that it can be moved safely and without damage.

According to the brand, the new SpinPlay has been carefully designed “with safe handling in mind, to enable users to easily transport the system to new locations.”

Andover Audio’s SpinPlay comes in two different finishes, white or black, and costs $729.

You can order it now from the company’s website, with shipping expected to happen by “mid November.”

The company says the SpinPlay will also be available soon from authorized dealer partners and Amazon.
