Audioengine makes some of the best and most popular desktop speakers around. These compact powered speaker systems are super easy to set up, look gorgeous and sound excellent. They also have built-in Bluetooth, so you can use them as a wireless stereo system, too.

In 2025, the Texas-based audio maker updated three of its most popular desktop speakers: the A2+, HD3 and HD4 (in order from smallest to largest). You can tell they’re the newest models if they have the “Next Gen” designation after their name.

Each of these Next Gen speakers has been upgraded with USB-C connectivity, so you can connect them more easily to your laptop. They also have a new 24-bit DAC and Bluetooth 5.3 (with support for AptX Adaptive), allowing them to play higher-resolution audio.

Ahead of the holiday season, Audioengine is having a Black Friday sale where it’s discounting two of these new desktop speaker systems, the the A2+ Next Gen and HD3 Next Gen. The largest system, the HD4 Next Gen, is not included in the sale.

The 2025 (or “Next Gen”) editions of these compact speakers (which have dropped the “Wireless” name) are identical to their predecessors but add support for 24-bit audio and a USB-C input, making it easier to connect to today’s laptops and desktops.

The A2+ Next Next comes in four standard matte finishes — black, white, red and green — and all are on sale. Additionally, Audioengine also introduced some limited edition finishes, blue and orange, but neither of those is discounted.

The Audioengine HD3 Next Gen is the latest iteration of the company’s HD3 powered speaker system, which was first introduced in 2016. These “Next Gen” models feature USB-C connectivity, an improved 24-bit DAC, and Bluetooth aptX support.

As far as how they compare to the A2+ Next Gen, the two are super similar. They are the same size and have the same 0.75-inch tweeter and 2.75-inch woofer, as well as the same 60-watt power amplifier. The differences are that the HD3 Next Gen comes in more premium finishes, has detachable speaker grilles, and has a dedicated headphone amplifier.

The HD3 Next Gen are available in three finishes: satin black, real walnut veneer, and high-gloss piano white. All three are currently on sale.
