Marantz’s New Receivers Are Built for Serious Home Theater Setups

Marantz has just introduced its first new batch of AV receivers in several years.

The all-new Cinema Series 2 is the second generation of its 2022 Cinema range. And, like before, it consists of three options: the Cinema 50 Series 2, the Cinema 60 Series 2 and the Cinema 70s Series 2.

According to the American-Japanese hi-fi manufacturer, the new Series 2 models “introduce meaningful advancements in sound quality, connectivity, gaming compatibility, and installation flexibility.”

All three AV receivers in the Cinema Series 2 feature numerous improvements.

Each now packs a new 32-bit, eight-channel DAC that promises to help deliver higher-resolution audio across all channels. They’ve been integrated with the latest HEOS platform for superior multi-room functionality. And they pack numerous HDMI 2.1 inputs, supporting more advanced gaming technologies (like 144p video pass-through and AMD FreeSync). 

All three Cinema Series 2 AV receivers support Direct Live room correction, which is like a much more sophisticated version of Sonos’s TruePlay that requires a special microphone and advanced software. However, it comes at an additional cost. 

Additionally, each of the new models has been carefully tuned and approved by Marantz’s Sound Master, Yoshinori Ogata.

The three AV receivers

So, what’s the difference between the three AV receivers? It mostly comes down to power and support for larger multi-channel configurations. As well as some advanced features.

The Cinema 50 Series 2 is the flagship. It’s a 9.4-channel AV receiver that’s capable of delivering 110 watts per channel. And it features 8 HDMI inputs, each supporting 8K video. 

As mentioned, the flagship Cinema 50 Series offers more advanced features than the other two in the range. This includes a Dolby Atmos Channel Expander, which further enhances the immersive sound when playing Dolby Atmos content. And it supports a Center Bi-Amp mode, allowing you to add a center channel speaker to improve dialogue clarity.

The Cinema 60 Series 2 is the midrange offering. Roughly the same size as the flagship, it’s a 7.4-channel AV receiver that can deliver 100 watts per channel. It has a 8 HDMI inputs, but only three support 8K video.

Marantz claims that the Cinema 60 Series 2 “elevates everything you love about movies, all in a timeless, feature-rich design.”

Finally, there’s the Cinema 70s Series 2. It’s also a 7.4-channel AV receiver and has the same HDMI inputs as the midrange option. However, it’s much more streamlined (about half the size) and delivers 50 watts per channel.

According to the brand, it’s designed to ensure “unforgettable home theater experiences even in smaller spaces.”

Availability and price

All three of Marantz’s Cinema Series 2 AV receivers will be available starting August 12th. They only come in one finish: black.

The Cinema 50 Series 2 costs $3,000. The Cinema 60 Series 2 costs $2,000. And the Cinema 70s Series 2 costs $1,500.
