You’ve probably never seen a turntable quite like it, as it taps into the hi-fi’s physical media boom in an interesting way.

Mixx Audio is no stranger to affordable turntables. The British audio manufacturer sells numerous plug-and-play-ready models aimed at those just getting into vinyl, and most cost around $300 (or less).

And while its latest turntable falls in line with this trend, it’s also quite different — that’s because it actually doubles as a CD player, too.

It’s called the Mixx Analog Plus.

Half turntable, half CD player

Naturally, the Mixx Analog Plus isn’t positioned as a high-end turntable or CD player, but simply as an integrated music player that effectively kills two physical media formats with one preverbal stone. It’s designed for music fans who want an easy way to listen to both CDs and vinyl.

As first spotted by TechRadar, the Mixx Analog Plus is the world’s first “concentric” turntable. The CD player is located inside the turntable’s platter, so it doesn’t take up extra space.

As for the turntable element of the Mixx Analog Plus, it’s a fully automatic, belt-drive record player capable of playing 7-inch and 12-inch records at 33 or 45 RPM. It comes with an Audio Technica AT3600L moving-magnet cartridge. And it features auto speed control, skip, and repeat functions.

On the CD player side, the Mixx Analog Plus is capable of playing regular CDs, as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs. There’s a display on the front panel that shows the full track number and time info. There are playback controls there, too. (It also comes with a remote controller, so you can switch tracks from across the room.)

The turntable itself can be hooked up to a tradition system or wireless connected to a Bluetooth speaker.

As far as how the Mixx Analog Plus actually sounds, that’ll depend a lot on the type of system you hook it up to. It features RCA audio outputs, so you can connect it to a set of powered speakers or integrate it into a more traditional hi-fi system.

Additionally, it has a built-in Bluetooth transmitter and thus functions as a Bluetooth turntable — you can stream audio from the CDs or vinyl records to any Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones.
