In the last year or more, Quad has released several hi-fi components in its 3 Series, all of which are designed in the 1960s aesthetic of some of its classic components. Basically, they look old, but work new.

In this Quad 3 Series are the Quad 33 preamplifier and the Quad 303 stereo power amplifier, both introduced in October 2024. And there’s the Quad 3 integrated amplifier, which was revealed this past June.

And now the legendary British audio company is adding a fourth component to its 3 Series, which should be especially welcome news for CD enthusiasts.

A CD transport, not a player

The newest addition to the 3 Series is the Quad 3CDT. It’s a CD transport — not a player, as there’s no built-in DAC — and thus needs to be paired with an external DAC to get up and running.

Naturally, Quad recommends pairing it with the Quad 3 integrated amplifier (which includes a DAC), as they share the same footprint and a matching classic aesthetic: matte silver front panel and signature orange-lit LCD strip.

Still, it can obviously work with other components in a high-quality digital system.

The Quad 3CDT has the guts to deliver, according to the brand, a “listening experience that is as refined as it is faithful” to the original CD recording.

Uncompromising digital performance

Of course, the Quad 3CDT is a high-end transport aimed at audiophiles who still enjoy listening to CDs. According to the brand, it’s designed “to deliver uncompromising digital performance in its purest form.”

At its heart is a high-precision CD mechanism and custom-designed CD servo control system, both of which Quad says have been optimized to minimize read errors, jitter and distortion, thus preserving the integrity of the original CD signal.

The Quad 3CDT can play standard CDs, but it also supports playback of CD-Rs, CD-RWs and data CDs, as well as files in FLAC, WAV, WMA, MP3 and APE formats.

Price and availability

The Quad 3CDT will be available later this month and will be priced at $1,099, making it the most affordable component in Quad’s 3 Series.
