Last year, Onkyo launched the Creator Series, which consists of two powered desktop speakers, the GX-10DB ($199) and the larger GX-30ARC ($299). It was notable because they were the first speakers that the Japanese hi-fi maker had released in years.

Now, to celebrate the company’s 80th anniversary, Onkyo has revealed special-edition versions of both those speakers that pay homage to the brand’s classic bookshelf speakers from the 1980s.

Walnut cabinets, silver trim

What makes these special-edition speakers unique is that they pay tribute to their legendary Onkyo D-200 bookshelf speakers (shown below), which were released in the late 1980s.

Each speaker has  PVC walnut cabinetry, silver trim rings and textured black baffles that, according to the brand, give it “a classic, furniture-like appeal.”

The Onkyo D-200 bookshelf speakers (discounted) can be purchased on eBay for between $500 and $600.

Same performance, sound

Other than aesthetics, these special-edition powered speakers are designed to perform and sound just like the GX-10DB and the larger GX-30ARC released last year.

Each model has a two-way design with a Class D amplification and built-in digital signal processing (DSP). They connect to your computer via USB-C or a 3.5mm jack. They have a built-in phono preamp (switchable) and an RCA input, too, so you can use them as turntable speakers.

Each system supports Bluetooth streaming, as well.

The previous Creator Series speakers were only available in white or black.

A sizable difference

As you can see from the photo below, the main difference between the GX-10DB and the GX-30ARC speakers is size and power (and price). They share the same 3/4-inch tweeter, but the GX-30ARC has larger woofers. And the systems deliver 34 watts and 50 watts of power, respectively.

The other big difference is that the larger models support HDMI-ARC, so you can even use them as compact TV speakers.

Price and availability

Onkyo revealed the 80th-anniversary editions of its Creator Series at CES 2026, but pricing information has yet to be released … but you can be sure that’ll cost more than the standard editions of the GX-10DB ($199) and the larger GX-30ARC ($299)

Onkyo anticipates that they’ll be released in “summer 2026.”
