The Model One put Tivoli Audio on the map. Released in 2000, it was a gorgeous tabletop AM/FM radio that combined good audio and beautiful mid-century modern design.

In 2017, the Boston-based audio maker released the Model One Digital, which took the design of the Model One, added a digital display along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi streaming capabilities, so that it worked like a modern wireless speaker.

Then, in 2020, Tivoli Audio released the Model One Digital (Gen 2), which looked identical but added support for AirPlay 2 and Chromecast.

Fast forward to the present day, and the brand has released a third-generation model of its Model One Digital — and it promises to be the biggest update yet.

Brushed metal and walnut

At first glance, the Model One Digital (Gen 3) looks quite different than its predecessor. That’s because it takes design cues from Tivoli Audio’s more recent speakers, the Model Two Digital and Boutique, and adds a brushed aluminum grille to complement its real walnut casing.

It’s available in three different finishes: walnut/gold, white/silver and black/black. The new gold and walnut combo is the real stunner of the three, in my opinion.

Lossless sound

Internally, Tivoli Audio has upgraded the sound, too.

The third-generation Model One Digital features a newly engineered full-range driver that’s powered by a 45-watt Class AB amplifier and optimized with 56-bit DSP tuning. According to the brand, this allows it to deliver a bigger, broader sound, with a 0–20kHz frequency response.

The speaker features a 24-bit DAC and supports high-resolution streaming up to 24-bit/48kHz.

Next to the radio is a small green potted plant in a white marble-patterned pot and two tall white vases. A woman in a black shirt is sitting in a tan chair in the foreground, looking at her phone. The desk is positioned in front of a window with green foliage visible outside.

Easy to use

Like its predecessors, the Model One Digital is a powered wireless speaker — despite the photos making it look portable, the speaker doesn’t have a built-in battery and needs to be plugged in at all times.

And it works similarly, too. Its singular rotating dial allows you to adjust volume, control playback and switch sources.

Expanded wireless connectivity

Tivoli Audio expanded the wireless connectivity of this new tabletop speaker, too. Like its predecessor, it supports streaming over Google Cast and AirPlay 2, but the third-gen model adds support for Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, too.

If you don’t want to stream over Wi-Fi, it features upgraded support for Bluetooth 5.2. There’s an aux input in the back for hooking up a wired device and playing audio the old school way. As tradition, it works as an FM radio, too.
