We Are Rewind is a French hi-fi company that burst on the scene a few years ago when it released the WE-001, a portable cassette tape player designed for today’s listeners.

Unlike Walkmans from the ’80s and ’90s, the WE-001 comes equipped with a lithium-ion battery that recharges via USB-C. No AA batteries required. And, in addition to a wired audio jack, it has built-in Bluetooth so you can stream the cassettes to wireless headphones.

More recently, the company has released special edition versions of its WE-001 that pay homage to music legends. This past fall, it introduced ones that honored Elvis Presley and Duran Duran. And now it’s coming out with one as a tribute to Pink Floyd.

Classic hi-fi, modern features

More specifically, We Are Rewind has partnered with Pink Floyd to release a special-edition version of the WE-0001 that commemorates the band’s The Dark Side of the Moon album, which was released in 1973 and is one of the most popular cassette tape releases of all time.

The special edition WE-001 cassette tape player has an all-black body, with album artwork on the front (a beam of white light passing through a glass prism and splitting into a rainbow) and the “Pink Floyd” name on the back.

Maybe just as significantly, the companies are releasing the special -edition WE-001 cassette tape player as a box set that also includes a remastered 50th anniversary cassette tape of The Dark Side of the Moon album. According to the brand, it “restores the full sonic richness of a timeless masterpiece.”

Remastered cassette tape, included

“To call The Dark Side of the Moon a classic album is an understatement,” says Romain Boudruche, the founder and CEO of We Are Rewind.

“In many ways, it set the tone for what an album experience should be as a continuous piece of sonic art but also used state-of-the-art production techniques and sounds which make it a true musical experience.”
