Today in Gear: January 3, 2014

Today in gear, we find a lithe Infiniti sedan, a foldable ski helmet, tech tools for hoop dreams and much more.

Carrera Snow Foldable Helmet
A gentleman skier should always hit the slopes in style — and style does not automatically eschew function. Following up its semi-collapsible cycling helmet launch earlier this year, Carrera has introduced a snow sport noggin protector as well. The frame flexes in combination with an elastic fitting system, ensuring it lays snugly atop your pate while also venting heat. The hypoallergenic lining is removable, moisture-wicking and washable and features integrated ear pads. carreraworld.com

Hoop Tracker
Quickly and easily attached to any existing basketball hoop via magic magnets, the Hoop Tracker is a nifty device that measures your shot accuracy via a little flippy paddle arm. The gadget communicates wirelessly to a wristwatch-like device that also monitors your position. The data is then combined to provide feedback about your game — where you did your best shooting, your accuracy, points, etc. — all visible online via the Hoop Tracker website. hooptracker.com/

Bear Grylls Ultimate Pack
We counted 18 different blades in this kit, which consists of every piece of Bear Grylls survival gear that Gerber makes, including a hefty pack in which to store it all. It’s all well branded and orange, and a pretty rad deal, all said and done. It’s everything you need for a premium Bear Grylls survival experience in the deep woods; just add piss. $950

There are few accessories more dashing than a pocket square; problem is, the pocket square has never been all that utilitarian. Hank does away with that old standard and includes two actual pockets tucked into the structure of a stylish silk cloth. Tuck your glasses or phone in the larger pocket and a credit card or business cards in the smaller front pouch. And no one will ever know. $35+

Lenovo Vibe Z
Lenovo is joining the smartphone game in a big way: their LTE-capable, 5.5-inch phone comes packed with Android 4.3 and a 1080p, 400ppi display (which is, like, super hi-def for a phone). The 5.2-ounce device sports a 13MP camera out back and a 5MP for selfies; its brain is a 2.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of memory. More info to come after CES. $549

Infiniti Eau Rouge
Infiniti’s new version of the Q50 is a sedan inspired by the Red Bull Racing Program, and they’re making a big deal of it. It’s lower and wider than the standard ride, and features huge air intakes, carbon fiber accents, 21-inch wheels and hood scoops. Further details are mum at this point — expect full details as the Detroit Auto Show looms nearer. infiniti.com
