While I can’t say I’ve been stoked to spend lots of time in hospitals lately (knee surgery, don’t ask), the experience has given me a renewed sense of gratitude for an underappreciated profession.

I’m referring, of course, to the dedicated folks getting a well-deserved moment in the sun right now thanks to International Nurses’ Day.

Honoring the occasion, Leatherman’s giving you a chance to nominate a special nurse for an opportunity to win them that emergency pro go-to, the Raptor Rescue

The brand is also dropping two gorgeous new treatments of the handy multi-tool that you and/or any nurses in your life are sure to love.

Cutting-edge colorways

Already available in eight eye-popping variants, the Raptor Rescue menu expands to 10, for a limited time, with the introduction of Violet/Rose Gold and Violet/Rainbow renditions.

The former renders the 420HC stainless steel shears and all other implements in a lovely rose gold hue, while the latter employs anodization to impart a multi-colored “oil slick” style finish.

The Violet/Rainbow treatment is sure to spark a conversation anytime you bust it out.

With both versions, the glass-filled nylon handles take on a complementary deep purple shade.

As with previous editions, the folding shears are the most noticeable and commonly used function, delivering precise, reliable cutting capability time after time.

Measuring eight inches long when the shears are deployed, the 5.8-ounce multi-tool cleverly folds down to a compact five inches, complete with a pocket clip. (It can also be carried using the included MOLLE or utility holster.)

However, the Raptor Rescue boasts five other critical tools that serve emergency professionals, including nurses, quite well … and could save your life, too.

Two of them also rely on sharp edges: the ring cutter and strap cutter.

The fold-out strap cutter can also be deployed to tackle tricky packaging, among other things.

The first is typically used to remove wedding bands and other hand jewelry, while the second can quickly release someone from a seatbelt or other restraining device when time is of the essence.

The Raptor Rescue also packs an oxygen tank wrench and a carbide glass breaker, as well as a much less dramatic tool you will probably actually use much more: a 5cm ruler.

Note the 5cm ruler on the lower half of the shears. (Also, if you ever meet a nurse who is this color-coordinated, be sure to compliment them.)
