BMW Just Dropped the Ultimate Road-Legal Racecar

The famed Motorsports division just made it easier to turn your M2 into a racecar for the road.

If you thought the BMW M2 and its more extreme CS weren’t potent enough, Munich’s Motorsports division has a solution. It’s called the M Performance Track Kit, and appearance aside, it does more than just add a big, racy wing to the M2’s trunk.

BMW might be focusing on its electrification and sustainability efforts. However, the purveyor of the “ultimate driving machine” doesn’t want you to think it’s forgotten how to make thoroughbred performance machines.

And what better way than to make a dedicated upgrade package for diehard track day enthusiasts.

The ultimate track car for the road

It might not seem like it on the surface. However, according to BMW, track day outings are becoming more popular than ever.

With sports car and performance lovers taking their enthusiasm to the racetrack, BMW saw an opportunity. Especially since the current M2 is one of the most desired weapons of choice for the job.

As such, buyers can now spec their new M2 with the M Performance Track kit. Which, as you’ve guessed, adds a whole bunch of track-worthy performance upgrades right from the factory.

So there’s no need to resort to makeshift aftermarket companies with questionable parts quality.

Real upgrades, because racecar

As evident from the official photos, one of the biggest changes with the M Performance Track package is the fitment of a massive factory rear spoiler. Only, it’s not just for show.

It’s a fully adjustable swan-neck design, allowing for varying levels of aerodynamic downforce at speed. That spoiler is also the same one available for BMW M’s own motorsports-spec M4 GTS and M4 GT3.

Complementing the big wing is an upgraded front lower bumper splitter, which is also adjustable to improve aerodynamics in tandem. The package also adds wheel arch air diffusers for improved cooling for the engine’s upstream oil cooler.

And new four-way adjustable shocks with equally adjustable support bearings complete the treatment, all so that drivers can adjust the suspension settings according to track conditions.

BMW M didn’t say how much the M Performance Track kit will cost on top of the already pricey $70,350 entry point (including destination. But the automaker will release those details closer to the package’s launch later this year.
