Earlier this summer, Lucid set an official Guinness World Record by covering a total of 749 miles on a single charge — a performance that bettered the previous global best by 100 miles. However, Chevrolet has just moved the mark once again with a 1,059.2-mile effort from its Silverado EV in Work Truck trim.
Why should you care? A lot of it came down to simple hacks that almost anyone could replicate at home. (Assuming, of course, they had an EV, along with the time, the dedication and, well, maybe a couple willing friends.) Here’s how they did it.

A collective effort
For perspective, official EPA estimates put the range for the 2026 Silverado EV Work Truck with the Max battery pack at 493.1 miles. As the workhorse of the lineup — with a massive 205-kWh battery — it got GM engineers to wondering what it could do if driven for peak efficiency.
Now, it’s worth noting that the record-setting performance made some sacrifices in everyday sensibility. For starters, a group of 40 drivers handled the effort, each taking rotating hour-long shifts to allow for regular work schedules.
It also reportedly took the team seven days to cover the 1,059.2 miles. Even still, if you were interested in testing the abilities of your own electric car, much of what GM engineers did would be easy enough to replicate on your own.
