From AMC and Levi’s to BMW and Kith, the car world has had its fair share of collaborations with sartorial influence.

Yet, few (if any) have resulted in anything that goes beyond surface-level modification. Naturally, it’s easier to slap on a set of stripes or a badge than it is to design for practical improvement.

It’s for this very reason that Ford and Carhartt’s Super Duty project promises to be a standout with the workwear crowd. Much as it’s an exercise in cobranding, it’s also a package that delivers real-world utility.

More than meets the eye

Sure, between a painted grille, a choice neutral color palette and some manhole cover-inspired wheels, the Ford Super Duty Carhartt Package brings its fair share of (eye-catching) visual tweaks.

However, many others go a level deeper by accounting for function too.

For instance, designers placed the Carhartt graphics on the fender vents, doors and tailgate to provide an additional layer of paint protection. They’re located in high-wear areas that see road debris, mud and salt, not to mention impacts at the job site.

Toward that end, while you’ll find the workwear brand’s logo stamped in the bed, it’s accompanied by a coating of Tough Bed spray-in bedliner. Around the sides of the truck, there are textured off-road running boards to provide grip and access.

Moreover, the Carhartt Package brings other upgrades that equip Ford’s Super Duty trucks for long days. Along with the roof markers and clearance lamps, the reflector lamps, fog lamps, and center stop lamp all get an LED overhaul.

Cut from the same cloth

As impactful as the changes are around the outside of the Ford Super Duty Carhartt package, it’s the interior where the collaboration really comes into focus.

Just look at the upholstery. Though highly abrasion-resistant and water-repellent like Carhartt’s tough Duck Canvas textile, it sports a broken-in feel and a color reminiscent of the brand’s Oiled Walnut heathered jersey fabric.

That’s not all. Apart from the obvious embroidered logos on the front headrests and map pockets, you’ll also find Carhartt’s triple-stitching on the seats and door panels. Again, the team picked specific areas needing extra durability, not just accents to cater to a theme.

Rounded out by other improvements, like a wrapped steering wheel and a set of all-weather floor mats inspired by a Carhartt tool bag, the result is an interior that’s refined in purpose yet undeniably utilitarian in execution.

As such, while it may technically be a joint effort, there’s nevertheless a natural cohesiveness to the project. In looks and spirit, it promises to be a true workwear grail.
