It’s Official: The Ford GT Makes 647 Horsepower

As customers begin receiving their deliveries, Ford confirms our suspicions.

Now that customers have finally started to receive the incredibly anticipated Ford GT, Ford has announced the official specs — because, let’s face it, customers were going to dyno their cars and find out anyway. The 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 puts 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque to the road and, if you find a stretch of road long enough, the supercar will top out at 216 mph. It also weighs a touch over 3,000 pounds, which puts the GT on par with the Ferrari 458 Speciale and 675 LT, in terms of power-to-weight — but both of the European supercars only do 199 mph and 201 mph, respectively. Considering the GT’s main design objective was to tackle Le Mans, that should come as no surprise.

Anyone with a good memory will also notice Ford was sandbagging the specs when the GT appeared on Forza Motorsport 6. In the video game, the GT puts out 630 horsepower, boasts 539 lb-ft of torque, weighs 2,890 and goes up to 215 mph on the Le Mans straight. But punch the numbers into a calculator and you’ll see the power-to-weight ratios are nearly identical. A very nerdy, but incredibly sly way to keep the car’s performance accurate without divulging the true numbers. Kudos to you, Ford.
