The Mercedes-AMG F1 team pulled back the covers on their championship title-defender for the 2017 season today at Silverstone Circuit in England.
Of the teams that have revealed cars, so far, Mercedes easily has best-looking vehicle. Though the regulations governing car design went through a massive overhaul for 2017 — requiring cars to be wider and lower, and to sport bigger, fatter tires — the new W08 looks more like an evolution of last year’s car than a completely new car. Which was probably the idea, since last year’s car dominated with 19 wins from 21 races.
It’s expected that Mercedes made significant power gains with its engine for the upcoming season — since the exact number is a closely guarded secret — but the best guesses have put peak power in the neighborhood of 1,000 horsepower. The more aggressive body work combined with the mountain of power the W08 has in its holster definitely makes for one promising car. Bring on the 2017 F1 season.
