The name Renault in American minds mostly conjures up memories of that horrid little Le Car that came to our shores in the 1970s and 80s. But Renault is hugely successful in Europe and produces positively wonderful cars like the Mégane Renault Sport hot hatch. Just announced, the French automaker has pulled the covers off the Renault A110-50 Concept, channelling the spirit of the successful Alpine A110 race car by the same maker. Photos, video and additional details after the jump.

Based on the Renault DeZir Concept that showed up at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the A110-50 sports a carbon fiber body in Alpine Blue with half circle yellow LED lights and a hood bulge reminiscent of the original. The A110-50 is powered by a 3.5 liter 400 horsepower mid-rear mounted V6 that pipes the battle cry of an angry hornet through its exhaust. Though that doesn’t seem like an astounding number, keep in mind that the car weighs in at a mere 1,940 pounds. Performance figures haven’t been revealed, but mated with a limited slip differential and an F1 style semi-automatic, six speed sequential gearbox that shifts via wheel mounted paddles or floor-mounted clutch, the V6 should push the car to 60 in less than four seconds. There’s no word on production of this car that was designed to honor the 50th birthday of the original A110, but we certainly would love to see Renault come to the U.S., as long as it’s not a resurgence of the Le Crap Car.
