Dodge’s new Charger has struggled to get off the ground in its Daytona EV guise, but that’s not to say that the brand is going down without a fight.

Thanks to the addition of the gas-powered Hurricane models, sales are already on the up-and-up. Moreover, even if the turbo inline-six isn’t your speed, the top brass have confirmed that the Hemi V8 is on its way.

However, Dodge is also making moves that go beyond adding raw performance. In celebration of the Charger’s 60th anniversary, the brand has introduced an eye-catching paint option called Purple Haze.

Much like Jimi Hendrix’s classic single, it’s a hue that offers multiple meanings and readings. Beyond keeping up a tradition of Dodge purple in recent shades like Hellraisin, it specifically recalls the Plum Crazy High Impact Paint of America’s muscle car era.

From 1969 to 1973, Mother Mopar offered 10 of these bright colors for the Dodge and Plymouth lineups, with choices ranging from Go Mango to Sublime. Being some of the most vibrant and unique options of the time, they now make for highly desirable classics.

As such, the new period-inspired paint not only makes the Charger more like its Hemi-powered ancestors but also more convincing as a muscle car poised to carry the brand’s performance ethos forward.
