Harbor Freight’s New Affordable Tool Drop Takes a Page Straight Out of Yeti’s Playbook

Outside of its core product colorways, each year, Yeti releases seasonal drops that spread special hues across its lineup. It’s a sound strategy to sell more gear, as it has diehard collectors and brand newcomers alike scrambling to rep the new looks.

Now, it seems that Harbor Freight has decided to take a page out of Yeti’s playbook. That’s because the latest Icon tool drop doesn’t bring added utility; rather, it delivers visual variety.

Green with envy

I’m talking about the 8-piece Mechanic’s Screwdriver Set, as well as the 4-piece Mini Soft-Grip Pick and Hook Set, both now available in green. Harbor Freight first teased the new color at SEMA 2025 back in November.

Evidently, more than a few fans have been anticipating the release. Whereas some users on the brand subreddit report specifically waiting for the color, plenty of others already have a set and are ready to snatch up the green just for the sake of collecting Harbor Freight goodies.

It’s a phenomenon that we’ve already seen with some of the retailer’s other popular products, be it the Mini Toolbox or the Icon Magnetic Tool Mat. In each case, online fervor has overshadowed intended utility.

Naturally, then, these aren’t the only colorful additions that Harbor Freight has made to its lineup. Along with the new green tool sets, the brand has also added a 3-ton jack option and expanded its ever-growing assortment of toolbox hues across the U.S. General range.

Nevertheless, those are much larger investments, and they’re one-time purchases that are a central part of any garage. Furthermore, if anything, their variety makes a more direct contribution to the personalization of the space.

However, a set of screwdrivers in an alternate color (and just a lone one at that) is comparatively collectible and easy enough to self-justify. All the more so when you consider the prospect of future matching drops, combined with Harbor Freight’s historic scarcity and frequent sales.

While this particular update to the Icon Mechanic’s Screwdriver Set is strictly visual in nature, these tools aren’t just for show (contrary to what some Harbor Freight aficionados might have you believe).

Like their red-handled counterparts, they incorporate Icon’s recently improved design. As such, they bring some truly helpful features.

Along with anti-cam-out ribs to avoid stripping Phillips fasteners, Icon’s Mechanic Screwdriver Set also offers magnetic tips for added security.

Add to that a grippy anti-roll design and a chemical-resistant handle, as well as some helpful drive type labels, and it’s easy to see why these were big — even before the fresh green colorway.
