Mitsubishi may continue to make headlines with updates regarding next-generation Pajero development, but the brand has plenty of other off-road projects that are happening in the here and now.

This proves especially true in the case of the Triton pickup. After taking the title in the 2025 Asia Cross Country Rally, the truck has since served as the foundation for tantalizingly rugged off-roaders like the Brazilian-market Triton Savana.

In fact, Mitsubishi has just announced another treatment for the Triton that’s designed to imbue it with rally-ready capability. While it doesn’t bring the snorkel of its South American predecessor, it’s nevertheless a significant release, and it’s also setting the stage for the brand’s most badass truck yet.

A rugged Outback-proven pickup

Mitsubishi is calling it the Triton Raider, and it’s a truck developed in collaboration with Australia’s Premcar (i.e., unfortunately, this particular pickup is not U.S.-bound). If you recognize the name, it’s likely because Nissan recently unveiled a Navarra Warrior that also incorporates the outfit’s expertise.

As the product of nearly 25,000 miles of development and over 4,000 miles of testing, the Raider is Outback-ready.

Despite the two trucks’ shared underpinnings, Premcar’s newly announced Triton overhaul is unique to Mitsubishi and a first for the brand. Moreover, it’s the result of a real effort, being the product of nearly 25,000 miles of vehicle development and over 4,000 miles of punishment in the Australian Outback.

Needless to say, it shows in practice. Premcar’s changes bring a completely re-engineered suspension system that’s designed for a wide range of driving conditions. Along with new front springs, it touts revised dampers and upgraded bump stops all around.

The Raider also now rolls on a set of 18-inch ROH wheels wrapped in some Bridgestone AT002 all-terrain tires, and it comes with slight increases in ride height and track width.

As the truck is only up by roughly an inch in both respects, Mitsubishi has accommodated for some underbody protection in the form of a bright red front bashplate.

Setting up for an even tougher truck

Premcar hasn’t made any changes to the powertrain, but the good news is that the Triton is already a workhorse. Being based on the top-tier GSR trim, the Raider hides a 201-horsepower twin-turbo 2.4-liter turbo-diesel under the hood, and it sports Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system.

Besides, the Raider treatment at least brings some choice visual touches to accompany its overhauled suspension. As part of the rally-inspired look, Mitsubishi and Premcar have fitted the pickup with a rear sports bar, side protection bars and a fresh grey front bumper garnish.

Together with the side decals, Raider badging and red accents, it makes for one cool truck. While it means the Triton looks a bit understated compared to its Nissan-badged counterpart, that’s supposedly part of the plan.

That’s because the best may be yet to come. According to an interview with Australia’s CarExpert, Mitsubishi is targeting a piece of the Ranger Raptor’s pie, stating that “Across the range, we can deploy the Raider concept on other nameplates potentially, but we can also look to further enhance the Triton to a higher level again.”

Availability and pricing

Now, at this stage, nothing is confirmed. However, Mitsubishi’s readiness to reestablish its off-road reputation is a sign of good things to come — especially concerning its stateside efforts.
