With the Tokyo Auto Salon just a couple of days away, all the domestic automakers are gearing up for a show, including Nissan. To maximize the spotlight, the company just revealed its latest upgrades for the Rock Creek variant of its most popular SUV, the X-Trail.

But rather than being a new model, the Yokohama-based automaker just unveiled a complete genuine accessory line for its all-terrain-biased version of its compact crossover. To show off the possibilities, Nissan’s design team took the X-Trail Rock Creek (which is basically the Rogue’s Asian-market twin) and threw the latest parts catalogue at it.

And he result is a lot more compelling than one would think.

Embracing the growing popularity of “sleeping in cars”

It’s no mystery that overlanding and even in-car camping (glamping?) have become increasingly popular with today’s influx of SUVs. To take advantage of the trend, automakers have been introducing more all-terrain and off-road-biased variants.

In the case of Nissan, the Rock Creek versions of the X-Trail/Rogue and the Pathfinder are both excellent examples of this.

However, Nissan just took things a step further. Now, one can opt for a new Multi-Bed feature in the X-Trail Rock Creek. Meaning, yes, its rear seat and cargo areas can be converted into a makeshift bed.

Thanks to a unique fold-out system, the collapsible bed is designed and shaped specifically to create a completely flat and padded surface for sleeping.

It also features neat details such as a lining made with water-resistant Cordura and retractable support legs for the front end of the bed where it leads up to the front seats.

What’s more, it can be collapsed to fit in the cargo area of the X-Trail with the rear seats up for easy transport.

The new Multi-Bed system isn’t the only new accessory Nissan is boasting for the X-Trail Rock Creek. The catalogue also includes a comprehensive selection of other genuine factory optional extras, including a new Sotoasobi package.

The latter adds a bunch of exterior appointments that beef up the X-Trail’s exterior appearance. Such includes plastic wheel well extensions, a two-tone color exterior with a matte black-painted hood, and even bespoke badges.

The X-Trail Rock Creek also now comes with an optional Roof Carrier Package, adding a Terzo rack system by PIAA.

Buyers can go even further with the Rock Creek Basic Plus and Roof Carrier Packages. The former adds Rock Creek-branded floor mats, wheel locks, window visors, and more. The latter equips a factory-sanctioned roof rack, compliments of PIAA.

Not for US, but not off the table

Although these upgrades are for the JDM X-Trail, North America receives the same car, which we get as the Rogue.
Nissan

Although Nissan specifically unveiled the new packages for the Japanese Domestic Market X-Trail, our Rogue is essentially the same car, but with left-hand drive and federalized for the US market.

Which means, there’s a chance these upgrades could make their way to the options list on our Rogue Rock Creek. Nissan didn’t disclose if these accessories would come Stateside.

But given the fact that we do get nearly the same SUV (Rock Creek Edition and all), it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch for Nissan to bring it to North America.
