Slate’s New Pickup Truck Starter Packs Tout “Big Looks” Under $30k

The startup just revealed some new low-cost configurations that combine wraps, accessories and other options for unique themed looks.

While the $24,950 price tag is a big part of the Slate pickup value proposition, much of the draw comes from its outrageous customization potential, too.

After all, between body styles, wraps, decals, wheels and various other accessories, the brand offers literally hundreds of options to make your vehicle feel like, well, yours.

Of course, being spoiled for choice can make the process pretty overwhelming. Towards that end, Slate has just revealed some fresh options to help give buyers a head start.

Bold looks for less

They arrive in the form of new starter packs, presets Slate picked from popular configurations.

However, unlike the outfit’s previous drops, these new themes are meant to combine “big looks” with a “not so big price,” so each one is specced to a price point. According to the outfit’s latest email, they’re all meant to come in at under $29,000.

And they all do, assuming you go for a truck at least. From simpler exterior looks like ‘Laser Tag’ and ‘All Green Flags’ to more complete configurations like ‘Fresh Kicks’ and ‘Lucky Streak,’ Slate has whipped up a variety of budget-conscious examples.

The bundles don’t bring discounts, but they do illustrate what buyers can accomplish without letting the MSRP go overboard. Be it lights, dash inserts, door liners and/or frunk organizers, there’s a lot to consider (even if you’re trying to keep things reasonable).

If you want a squareback SUV, Slate did create a ‘Concrete Camo’ that adopts the configuration. However, between its body style, partial wrap and other accessories, it crosses the $30k mark at $31,004.90.

A sign of the times

As much as it might seem like a lot of fuss for what are essentially, well, design templates, Slate’s starter packs are notable for reasons other than their ‘big looks.’

Namely, they echo the growth of serialization and drop culture, with the focus being on color and style rather than utility or substance. Slate’s naming conventions and recent Crayola collab show that it’s clued in to hype, but you can find others throughout the industry.

If you’re not one for design or color theory, Slate’s customization options could be pretty overwhelming.

Take Jeep, for example. The brand has been running a whole year-long program dedicated exclusively to limited-run Wranglers, timing each one for the 12th of each month.

Just this week, Ford revealed a new limited-edition Desert Rising Edition Bronco. Beyond the sweet pink hues, it was a release that echoed the Blue Oval’s goals to cultivate its own “Nike dropping a sneaker” moments.

Moreover, it speaks to buyers’ growing focus on personalization above other features. It’s something that’s coming from the top down, as luxurious marques like Bentley and Lamborghini are leading the way through their respective bespoke customization programs.

If you’re looking to reserve a truck in one of Slate’s new wallet-friendly starter packs, you can head to the company’s website. Prices range from $25,654.90 for ‘Laser Tag’ to $31,004.90 for ‘Concrete Camo.’

As with other Slate wraps and options, installation and delivery are not included in the MSRP.
