It seems the Honda Prelude may be getting some special editions and variants after all. Rumors are circulating in Japan about some potential new versions of Honda’s popular sports coupe.

But as you can probably guess from the source of the rumors, which hail in from Creative311, a supposed Japanese-based car blog with dealer-level insider connects, it’s probably for Japanese customers only.

More unique Preludes are on the way, just no Type S or R (yet)

If you were hoping for a faster, higher-spec Prelude Type R, sadly, this rumor doesn’t involve that prospect. Instead, it suggests Honda is working on special, limited-edition models to diversify the range.

According to the latest development, these limited editions will come with special interior and exterior colors not otherwise available in the Prelude ordering books. The bespoke extras will also reportedly include unique trim bits and appointments, and extra standard options.

Despite being one of Honda’s most recent sports cars, the Prelude still isn’t without controversy.

But the report didn’t mention any prospect of performance upgrades. Instead, the rumor suggested the model will be called the Prelude Limited Edition.

The move will be similar to Honda producing the Prelude ON Limited Edition, which was essentially a specialized “launch” version of the coupe. Because the ON Limited Edition sold out almost instantly, Honda acknowledged the demand and is producing this new special edition in response.

The world wants spicier Preludes

When the Prelude launched late last year, many Honda and sports car fans were asking about a higher-spec model. In other words, the possibility of a Type R version of the Prelude.

But according to various reports, Prelude executives have downplayed the idea of a Prelude Type R. Rather than denying the possibility, Honda has maintained that there aren’t any current plans for such a model.

This news from December 2025 obviously disappointed Prelude and Honda fans. However, rumors of a spicier and faster Prelude are still circulating.

A previous report from the same site noted that some high-performance prototypes are in development. They could ultimately be signaling a faster Prelude, though that would mean Honda is taking extra precautions to ensure things remain under wraps.

If you want some performance parts for the new Prelude, you’ll have to phone up firms like Mugen.

So, if you’re impatient and want some sort of racier Prelude, you’ll have to see if you can import some aftermarket addons from Mugen.

Availability and pricing
