Spyderco knives are easily recognized, even for EDC initiates. It’s that circular hole in the blade that takes the place of a thumb stud or nail nick — a solution that the company’s founder, Sal Glesser, created while searching for a new one-handed opening method back in the early 1980s. It’s been modified and imitated by plenty of other makers because it’s simple, and it works. Spyderco built the Efficient to be an everyday pocket knife. Its drop-point blade is just shy of three inches long and is available with a plain or partially serrated edge. The handle scales are textured G10 fiberglass, and the mechanism locks open with a stainless steel liner lock. None of these features are brand new — they were present in the original release of the Efficient — but now they’re all finished with a matte black oxide coating, which gives the knife a look that’s both sleek and modern.
