While the end of ski and snowboard season is visible just over the horizon, we’re surprised to see Patagonia discounting its excellent Snow Roller travel bag ahead of the spring ski trip season.

But that’s exactly what’s happening right now, making this opportunity all the more compelling for anyone looking to protect their gear in transit.

Basic, but built to last

It looks basic because it is basic, but that doesn’t mean it lacks the features needed to safely transport your ski and snowboard gear to the mountains and back.

The Snow Roller doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel(s). Built from durable recycled fabric with a water-repellent finish, it offers a straightforward approach to transporting skis and snowboards.

Five grab handles and a stout wheelset make maneuvering through airports and parking lots manageable.

An internal zippered pocket keeps smaller items from getting lost in the main compartment, and the bag folds down into thirds for storage when not in use.

If there’s a catch here, it’s that the available medium-sized bag fits skis or snowboards up to 165 cm, with room to spare for boots, helmets, and other essentials. So it might be too small for anyone on the tall side using larger equipment.

The Snow Roller is currently marked down to $209, a 30 percent discount from its regular $299 price, on Patagonia’s website. Given that the large size has already sold out, we don’t expect stock for the smaller bag to last much longer either.
