Outside of one longstanding exception, Uniqlo doesn’t usually make bag people stop scrolling. But a listing quietly tucked into the brand’s “coming soon” section has done exactly that โ and the wider bag community online has already started buzzing before a single unit has landed on Western shelves.
The product is the Uniqlo Utility Backpack, a highly affordable EDC pack that looks far more deliberate than its price tag suggests.
The new king of budget backpacks?

The backpack will look instantly familiar to anyone who pays attention to the category. It carries the unmistakable DNA of a design movement that’s been quietly dominant in carry culture since the early 2010s.
Brands like Aer, Peak Design and Evergoods have all created cult followings around minimalist black packs with clean exteriors, thoughtfully organized interiors and hardware that earns its placement.

That aesthetic itself traces back, at least in some ways, to Japanese makers like Porter by Yoshida & Co.ย โ a lineage Uniqlo, as a Japanese brand, is perhaps better positioned than most to reference authentically.
