Proof has a pretty robust catalog of apparel offerings, ranging from travel-friendly pants to classic basics and everything in between. And just about all of it is incredibly solid.

This makes it all the more impressive that the brand’s 72-Hour Merino offerings are consistently among its best sellers.

If the latest launch is any indication, that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. In fact, it might be the case that the new Proof 72-Hour Merino Tactical offerings propel the collection even higher on that best-seller list, potentially solidifying them as the brand’s all-around best.

Anything but basic

Proof’s new launch includes two pieces of apparel, the 72-Hour Merino Tactical T-Shirt and the 72-Hour Merino Tactical Hoodie. While the former is a classic short-sleeved tee, the latter offers a bit more coverage with long sleeves and a hood.

Beyond that, however, they’re built largely the same. In fact, they’re very similar to their non-Tactical brethren. They even have the same base fabric: merino wool.

For those unfamiliar, merino wool is a type of natural super fabric. Sourced from sheep of the same name, the material is naturally lightweight and breathable, yet retains warmth when you need it and offers a ton of comfort, versatility and so much more.

It also wicks moisture, resists odor and even offers natural protection from the sun. Pretty cool, right?

So, how does a brand improve on a fabric that already has so much to offer? Proof found a way …

Go anywhere, do anything

The difference between these Tactical-edition 72-Hour Merino items and their siblings is something you can’t see with the naked eye. Along with the standard material, these have additional Spectra fibers woven into their fabric.

Spectra is like Dyneema in that it is a brand name for ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). While the material has many properties, the most important in this case is its strength-to-weight ratio: Spectra is 15 times stronger than steel by weight.

For reference, this material is typically used in high-performance industries, often employed to make ultralight, ultra-tough outdoor gear, like backpacking bags. In this context, it makes the shirt and hoodie exceptionally tough — far tougher than they already were.

But here’s the best part: it adds all that strength without sacrificing any of the base merino garment’s standard properties. In millennial parlance, it’s all killer, no filler.

From the gym to the trails and back again, these shirts can go anywhere and thrive, all while offering nearly unmatched comfort and performance.
