Hoka’s Workhorse City-to-Trail Sneaker Just Got Even More Rugged

The upcoming Transport 2 GTX is a tough, adventure-ready silhouette that doesn’t look out of place on the pavement.

Hoka built its reputation in the mountains long before it became a go-to brand among commuters, hobby joggers and nurses.

It’s no surprise, then, to see that outdoor DNA trickle into a shoe expressly designed for sidewalks and streets.

The upcoming Hoka Transport 2 GTX takes the brand’s urban-optimized sneaker and weaves in technology commonly found on footwear designed to traverse well beyond the pavement.

Like the baseline Transport 2, it utilizes quick-adjust speed laces, a lugged Vibram outsole and Cordura-reinforced upper for genuine off-road utility. But it goes one step further with the addition of a Gore-Tex membrane for year-around weather protection.

On that thread, the new variant also pairs the protective toe cap with a wraparound rand, both fashioned out of TPU, as an extra layer of weather resistance against rain and slush.

The additional materials do result in a slight weight gain, with the Transport 2 GTX clocking at a listed 12 ounces (versus 11.3 ounces for the Transport 2).

However, Hoka preserved the same 38mm stack height and 5mm drop found on the existing model to keep the model in line with the majority of the brand’s shoe lineup.

Availability and pricing

Newly listed on Hoka’s website, the Transport 2 GTX goes on sale September 1 with the price tag set at $175, a $20 increase from the Transport 2.

It comes in a handful of launch colorways, including “Galactic Grey,” “Coastal Redwood” and black.
