New Balance is no stranger to “Dark Olivine,” seen on past models like the 2010 and 933.

But its chunky 9060 dad shoe might just be the best canvas for the colorway.

New Balance tapped its Y2K-inspired 9060 for this decidedly ’70s-looking variant in dark olivine.

Not your average dad shoe

Debuting in 2022, the 9060 has quietly become one of New Balance’s more popular models.

Toeing the line between sneakerhead appeal and fashion staple, the glorified dad shoe was designed to blend a chunkier Y2K aesthetic with elements from the classic 990.

Looks aside, these sneakers boast a dual-density midsole (with Abzorb and SBS) for serious energy return and shock absorption.

Nifty shades of green

“Dark Olivine” has been employed plenty of times throughout the New Balance catalog.

So what makes these 9060s different? For starters, the color is not just an accent but dominates the shoe.

Various shades of green show up on this highly wearable dad shoe.

Wisely, the sneaker doesn’t just pick one shade of green but adroitly harmonizes the different hues. The dynamic mixed-material design of the 9060 lends itself so well to the color scheme.

While originally designed to look a bit futuristic, this variant feels straight out of the ‘70s. The most retro shades, mint green and dark olivine (some might call it “avocado”), show up on the suede elements.

Meanwhile, the layered “N” logo, tongue, mesh, mudguard and even outsole all do well to color block, with the bone white midsole sandwiched between it all.
