Lately, 1970s-inspired sneakers are everywhere, and brands with long histories benefit from deep archives and a wealth of heritage styles to remix.

Retro runners like the Nike Astrograbber continue to gain traction in 2026, and while New Balance is primarily known for its chunky dad shoes, its newest offering fully embraces the low-profile trend, with an ’80s twist.

Vintage vibes, modern materials

The Gator Run may look similar to its retro-inspired Nike competitor, but the nostalgic style stands firmly on its own historical pedigree.

First introduced in 1982 as an athletic turf shoe, the Gator Run was brought back from the archives as a low-profile lifestyle sneaker earlier this year.

There have been multiple versions dropped over the past five months, including this hairy suede pick, but the upcoming variant is arguably the most eye-catching yet.

The Gator Run is set to release in two summer-ready, sherbet-inspired color options: Apollo Gold with Black, and Dry Lime with Mosaic Green.

Dry Lime with Mosaic Green is the slightly more subdued pick of the duo, with textured lime-green overlays and lighter-green mesh paneling.

Both colorways feature a black outsole and tan midsole detail to ground the ultra-colorful take on the iconic silhouette.
