According to the brand, this racing flat crossed more finish lines than any other in its category.

In recent years, one of Nike’s core strategies has been to revive retro trainers as lifestyle sneakers. But every once in a while, it’s nice to see a running shoe brought back as a running shoe.

Debuting in 2009, the Zoom Streak 3 was arguably the best marathon racing flat ever (at the time). It went on to win major marathons including Boston, New York City and London. And according to the brand, it broke “more finishing line tape than any other Nike racing flat before.”

A pre-super-shoe model, the marathon trainer lacked the carbon plating and max-stack cushioning we commonly see today, but we didn’t know any difference. We wanted results, and this shoe delivered.

Today, the Zoom Streak 3 stands (or runs) as a paragon of a bygone era, a few years before the Vaporfly changed everything. But now, it makes its return for the first time in about 15 years.

If it ain’t broke …

Rather than bringing back the Zoom Streak 3 as a racing flat, Nike has remarketed the shoe as an everyday sneaker

The new silhouette looks nearly identical to the original, which started disappearing from the catalog around 2011. It still sits low on a Zoom Air midsole and is covered with breathable mesh on the upper to help achieve the uber-lightweight sub-7-ounce frame of the original.

For the relaunch, the Zoom Streak 3 drops in high-contrast black and white colorways (both with Volt yellow Swooshes). The upper graphics remain the same here as well, printed right on top of the mesh.

Lifestyle sneakers?

Despite the new lifestyle positioning, the 2026 reboot may very well be the same Zoom Streak 3 we saw nearly two decades ago. Neither the outsole nor the midsole has been revised. The collar hasn’t even received any added cushioning. For all intents and purposes, this is simply a throwback running shoe that Nike’s telling you to wear to the grocery store instead of to your next race.

What has changed, however, is the consumer market. These days, we’re simply more keen on wearing running shoes (or hiking shoes, for that matter) as our everyday sneakers. And with the affordable $115 price tag of the new ZS3, we can do so here without breaking the bank.

Availability and pricing

The Zoom Streak 3 is available now from Nike’s SNKRS app. Again, it’s priced at $115.
