These Modular Couches Look Great and Make Moving Less Miserable

If you’re as tired as we are of buying a couch, selling the couch 12 months later, then buying another couch, here’s a brand for you.

If you live in a city, you’re unfortunately familiar with the drumming of this beat: sign lease, buy furniture to fit your space, move to a larger space, buy new furniture to fill that space, repeat. Civil wants to break this cycle. The just-opened direct-to-consumer company’s first collections became available online this past week and I’m a tad obsessed with the Noord collection of upgradable living room seating.

Noord, designed in collaboration with the Milanese luxury designers at Metrica, is a smattering of customizable modular chairs, sofas, three-seat couches and sectionals that you can swap in and out at your behest, and the behest of the living space you currently occupy. You can choose materials, colors and add on a clever “Magic Box,” a wireless smartphone charging station that doubles as a wooden end table.

Noord, and Civil’s other collections (modular storage and side tables), are live on Civil’s webstore now.
