Scorched Mirth

Cook-Air

We like to grill our meat, but if you prefer to give it the ol’ Towering Inferno treatment, the Cook-Air Portable Grill ($200) could be for you. This small BBQ is capable of reaching temps of 1,100°F — that’s the equivalent of 65,000 BTUs of power, which is essentially double that of your average propane BBQ. Surprisingly, it does this using only chemical-free pucks made from 100% non-resinous wood scraps — and a boat load of air flow created by an integrated electric-powered fan. The downside is the fan requires a power source to work, in the form of a wall outlet, a car adapter, or eight D batteries. We doubt you’ll care once you fire it up.
