Makers of the original wood-pellet grills and among the first companies to integrate computers into grills, Traeger is taking another step into the digital world with the launch of an app. Only the new app isn’t just for wood pellet grills and, shockingly, is genuinely useful.
Available now on the Play Store and iOS devices, the Traeger App provides users with a constantly updating inventory of recipe videos, grill hacks and cooking tips. Traeger tapped the likes of famous grill masters Matt Pittman and Danielle “Diva Q” Bennett, to film in-depth videos on everything from wrapping a brisket to maintaining a cast-iron skillet.
“Not only are we giving everyone at home the opportunity to get inspired and cook alongside some of the best chefs and pitmasters in the world, we’re giving them a multimedia-rich resource to help hone their skills, and a platform to share their experiences with the rest of Traeger Nation,” Traeger CEO Jeremy Andrus said in a press release.
Being a part of the aforementioned “Traeger Nation” involves creating a user profile so grillers can set up their personal flavor profiles and dietary restrictions, which informs the curation of recipes you’ll receive. You can also leave notes on recipes for other members to see — sort of like crowdsourcing the ultimate recipe.
If you have one, the app works with the Traeger Grills line of WiFIRE grills, which allow grill users to control their grills with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. With the new app, grillers can monitor temperature, pellet usage and temperature probes to perfect their recipes. The launch of the app coincides with a firmware update across the Traeger Pro 575 and 780 pellet grills so that they can reach 500°F. That said, the app has plenty of utility for those who don’t own a Traeger grill, with content on knife skills, marinades, vinaigrettes and so on.
The app is available for free through the App Store and the Play Store now.
