Much as some of Harbor Freight’s products take off because of their novelty (looking at you, Mini Toolbox and Magnetic Tool Mat), there are plenty of others that do so because of their ability to undercut the competition.

Icon’s ratchets are a perfect example. Sure, they command a cult-like following, but it cuts deeper than branding, as they do manage to bring impressive features at a more attainable price point than rivals (especially when you factor in frequent sales).

It’s for this reason that the retailer’s next tool release has the potential to be a hit. Being a part of the updated G2 ratchet series, they bring a significantly improved design, and that’s just the start of the appeal.

Following up on SEMA promise

I’m talking about the new ratchets that Harbor Freight previewed on Instagram last week. Following an initial reveal at SEMA 2025, the retailer has finally started to roll out some of the announced additions.

Specifically, the Icon brand is expanding its catalog with new additions in the form of fixed-head ¼-inch stubby, ¼-inch short, ¼ standard (in both metal and comfort grips), as well as ¾-inch long ratchet options.

In other words, it’s filling some important holes in the lineup. Currently, Harbor Freight offers G2 ratchets in a number of lengths and head configurations, but the shortest option available comes in at nine inches.

As such, the more compact handles will be a plus for those working in close confines, while the added fixed heads are sure to appease others who have been avoiding the available locking options in the meantime.

Moreover, though you’ll find that Icon offers a variety of drive sizes throughout the G2 range, even the longest options now top out at ½-inch. If you’re working on cars, machinery or other heavy duty projects, that new ¾-inch long might be just what you’ve needed.

Updates demand discounts

While Harbor Freight does technically already cater to these sizes with Icon ratchets, it’s worth noting that those are part of the G1 series.

It’s an important distinction, as Icon ratchets bring changes like lower-profile heads, split-pawl designs and lower teeth counts as part of the G2 update.

What’s more, the flex-head-equipped options benefit from the addition of a locking mechanism, and the rubber handles on the comfort grip models bring ergonomic improvements. Suffice to say, they amount to some impactful refinements if you’re after more versatile tools.

However, if you’re looking to save some money or you won’t notice some of these tweaks, the G1 ratchets could offer a cheaper alternative.

As things stand, they’re already eligible for member deals, and they’re only increasingly likely to feature promotions in the coming months.

Availability and pricing

After all, these five new options are but the first of many more to come. As part of the G2 expansion, Harbor Freight will be adding a further 15 ratchet configurations to the Icon catalog in the coming months, so existing G1 variants should be subject to some discounts.

If you’re interested in picking up some of the latest Harbor Freight Icon ratchet releases, they’re available now. The ¼-inch stubby is priced at $29.99, the ¼-inch short is priced at $32.99 and the ¼-inch standards are priced at $39.99. The ¾-inch long ratchet is priced at $119.99.
