Mash-ups can have, pardon the wordplay, mixed results.

When something like “Never Gonna Wake You Up” hits your ear, good luck getting it out of your head, even if it drives you nuts.

Meanwhile, Triumph is over here combining “adventure,” “sport” and “touring” with an appeal that is much more straightforward.

Behold the blend of sports performance, road trip-worthiness, good looks and value that is the new Tiger Sport 800 Tour.

Going the distance

The Tiger Sport 800 is already a champ, thanks in large part to its power and performance qualities, headlined by its 798cc triple engine.

Making 113 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and peak torque of 62 lb-ft at 8,500 rpm, it’s punchy and powerful enough to dominate from urban streets to open highways.

The new 800 Tour ups the ante with a host of compelling standard features, including a center stand, heated grips, hand guards, cushy backrest pads and a dual Comfort Seat.

Even better for extended escapades are an aluminum luggage rack with integrated, easily detachable color-matched panniers offering 15 gallons of space, plus a 13-gallon top box with space for two helmets.

Approachability is enhanced by a 32.9-inch seat height (relatively low for ADVs) and slim standover width. The curb weight of 511.5 pounds includes the luggage, with adjustable Showa suspension and reliable radial brake calipers helping you handle this beast.

Adding comfort on long rides are the single-handed adjustable windscreen and integrated deflectors.

Perhaps what really makes the 800 Tour a contender for top Triumph touring bike is some pretty comprehensive rider-focused tech.

Highlights include three ride modes (Sport, Road and Rain), ride-by-wire throttle and switchable traction control, plus Triumph Shift Assist, Optimized Cornering ABS and Optimized Cornering Traction Control.

These elements should be especially welcome to newer riders, as they essentially forgive various mistakes, helping you stay upright and confident and rise to the challenge of tricky conditions.

This new Tour also adds a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), just one more quiet safety-boosting trait.

Rounding things out from a tech standpoint are LED lights, multi-functional LCD and TFT instruments with turn-by-turn navigation and Bluetooth phone connectivity — so you can call home and let ’em know just how far you’ve gone.
