Triumph’s Gorgeous, Affordable Entry-Level Roadster Just Got Even More Compelling

A new look, a horsepower boost and upgraded suspension add up to triple this rider-friendly moto’s already strong value proposition.

As I mentioned in my piece about the 2026 Tiger Sport 660 yesterday, it’s not the only shiny new motorcycle Triumph announced this week.

Equally newsworthy is a bike that shares that one’s upgraded engine but rolls out with a totally different attitude.

Intended for pure tarmac-treading bliss, the new Trident 660 boasts fresh styling, more power and better handling. 

The fact this entry-level roadster’s base price dips well under $10,000 only makes the total package more compelling.

Wild horses

As with the Tiger Sport 660, the big news is the amped up 660 triple engine, which now makes 94 horsepower, 14 ponies more than its predecessor, plus 50.2 ft-lb of peak torque at 8,250 rpm.

That torque is there for the taking, as 80 percent of it is available from 3,000rpm through nearly 12,000rpm.

Meanwhile, the redline climbs 20 percent to 12,650rpm, enabling plenty of pace at the top end and ensuring ample acceleration and smooth power from city streets to two-lane twisties.

This entry-level ride still puts your shifting skills to the test with a six-speed gearbox, but the effort is eased by Triumph Shift Assist and a slip-and-assist clutch lever, helping you ride for hours without your hand cramping up.

Triumph engines are beloved for their rattle and hum, and this triple is no different, boosted by triple throttle bodies and enhanced induction.

While I personally lean toward ostentatious pipes, this Trident’s revised exhaust system flies under the radar, tucked up under the engine and tapering in front of the rear wheel, ensuring you or a passenger will never burn a calf on it.

Riders welcome

Additional changes to the bike offer a bit more attitude for those with the wherewithal, including a wider fuel tank with knee cutouts and a split rider and passenger seat (with the option to add a rear cowl for solo riders).

Even so, the bike boasts several features that increase approachability, inviting newer and smaller riders to swing a leg over.

For example, the premium Showa suspension includes inverted big piston forks with 4.72 inches of travel and a new rear suspension unit offering 5.12 inches of travel and greater adjustability. 

Meanwhile, the bike’s narrow standover height and relatively low seat (31.89 inches), combine with wider bars and a low wet weight (430 pounds) to make for a naturally nimble ride.

Those purely physical attributes are enhanced by a bunch of thoughtful tech, including a connected color TFT display enabling you to toggle through three ride modes — Sport, Road and Rain — that adjust throttle response, ABS and traction control to conditions.

Even more rider-friendly tech comes in the form of a six-axis IMU, which enables optimized cornering ABS and switchable optimized cornering traction control, all to help you keep the shiny side up, even when the road has other ideas.

Availability and pricing

The 2026 Triumph Trident 660 hits dealerships in March at a starting price of $9,145.
