Finn Utility began on the lakes of Maine. Its founder and chief designer, Ryan McDonald, grew up there and learned to fly fish with his grandfather, who was an accomplished fishing guide. McDonald was baptized in those waters, so to speak — from then on, fly-fishing was his greatest passion. It shows in Finn Utility’s products.

Located near the Winooski River in Vermont, Finn Utility is a down-to-earth company specializing in all-American, heritage-inspired bags and fly-fishing products: backpacks, fly wallets, tube rolls, hip pack accessories and more. All of their products are handmade in a small family-owned shop and feature varied configurations of all-natural materials like waxed twill canvas, English bridle leather, antique brass and shearling wool. They are made to last for generations, just like the fly-fishing products used on the serene lakes of Maine by McDonald’s grandfather, and his grandfather before him.
