With the new year in full swing, outdoor brands are answering the call for creativity, performance and innovation with their newest releases of the year. This month alone, we've seen functional snowshoes, creative kayaks and alluring apparel hit the proverbial shelves across the internet.
They say January sets the tone for the year to come, and if this month’s drops are any indication, it’s going to be a stellar year in the great outdoors.
Ten Thousand Tactical Pant
There are regular pants, and then there are Tactical Pants. The newest drop from Ten Thousand is an ultra-durable, highly-functional pant designed in collaboration with members of the United States Special Forces community. Standout features include four-way stretch fabric, a water-repellent DWR coating, knit gusset and knee darts engineered for flex and a hidden back zip pocket and reinforced right front knife pocket for increased sturdiness and storage. Whether you're rucking, shooting or camping, these pants will keep up.
Diemme x Hiking Patrol: Roccia Vet Orange Cordura
This January, one of the most hyped boots of the year dropped with a bang. Built around the silhouette of Diemme’s ‘Roccia Vet’ boot, the collab kicks are engineered to perform in an outdoor environment and simultaneously look at home in an urban one, thanks to eye-catching colorways and design details. An upper made with Cordura keeps things hardwearing and functional, while the Sympatex lining maintains breathability. Hiking the trail or hitting the streets, you'll be looking good and ready for anything.
Cannondale Synapse with SmartSense Technology
The latest edition of this Cannondale classic promises to be one of the most approachable, capable and safe endurance road rides yet. The frame is shaped for speed yet features increased flex to go easier on the body over long hauls, plus size-specific tweaks to boost every rider’s performance. And SmartSense tech, an interconnected system of lights and radar, pairs with the Cannondale app to not only increase your awareness of drivers but also their awareness of you. The Synapse is available in multiple carbon models, including the mid-level $5,500 Carbon 2 RLE shown here. More to come once we’ve had a chance to test.
Janji x Dion Snowshoe
Ready to try out hiking in the snow this season? Janji x Dion have you covered with their new collaboration. Handcrafted in Vermont — and featuring thoughtful details like quick-fit bindings, an ice cleat to help you stay upright in challenging conditions and the ability to fit with your existing shoes — this snowshoe makes it easy (and affordable) to try out your new favorite sport.
Insanely popular, this snowshoe is already out of stock. Check Janji's site for restocking options.
Volcom US Snowboard Team Kits
Not to be outdone by that memorable flannel-and-denim steeze Burton rolled out for the Vancouver Olympics, Volcom’s apparel for the team headed to Beijing next month is a blast. Five different kits, each with its own unique style, including patriotic graphic hits, color blocks and an all-business option featuring a necktie. While you can’t actually buy this stuff (yet), you can score some of the goods that inspired it, as well as plenty of associated USST-themed gear.
Whitespace: A Brand by Shaun White x Backcountry
“Whitespace is a term creatives use for a blank canvas: a place for everyone to be who they want to be and have the freedom to create whatever it is they want to create.” So sayeth snowboard legend Shaun White in describing his latest venture, an active lifestyle brand launched in collaboration with Backcountry. The first product, a very limited-edition snowboard (50 units), sold out in hours, but there’s more to come: stay tuned for outerwear, snowboard hardgoods and streetwear dropping later this year.
Canada Goose Standard Expedition Parka Humanature
Down-filled warmth in a chic all-white package? Say no more. The standout feature on this winter stunner is an adjustable down-filled hood, adding warmth and protection from the elements. Along with the cozy head covering, Canada Goose added recycled and organic materials, responsibly sourced down and undyed fabrics, hitting both your winter style goals and a sustainability ethos.
Snow Peak Extension IGT
If one of your 2022 resolutions is to maintain a chic and well-organized campsite, check out Snow Peak's newest table. The Extension IGT builds upon the original Iron Grill Table by making it a two-unit expandable option. This simple stunner features two laminated bamboo tabletops and an aluminum alloy stand; slide the tabletops to the side and insert a stove in the middle. It's like the comforts of home, with the peacefulness inherent in the outdoors. Win-win.
Bote Zeppelin Aero 10′ Classic Seafoam Inflatable Kayak
Did you watch The River Runner? (If not, we highly suggest checking it out.) If you have, and are now obsessed with all things kayaking, dip your toe into the sport with this inflatable kayak. It won't take you down falls, but Bote's single-seater will get you out on the water and, when you're all done, packs away into a manageable package that'll fit in the back of your car. This thing comes with a hand pump, travel bag, repair kit and more, so all you have to do is inflate and float.
The North Face x Gucci Down Vest
When The North Face x Gucci released the first chapter of their collaboration, heads were turned and eyes were caught. With the second chapter released to start off the new year, the story is no different. High-fashion whimsy and technical details come together in one high-profile collection. We're particularly enamored of this Down Vest — the unique print, paired with traditional TNF color-blocking, is reminiscent of the late 18th century rise of Romanticism, while the cozy factor is decidedly modern. Is it worth a little under two grand? We'll let you be the judge.
