What’s Missing from Your EDC? This Beautiful Pocket Cleaver

Massdrop and Ferrum Forge have collaborated to produce the Buc, a folding cleaver-style pocket knife that draws inspiration from Asian cavalry swords.

When you think of an everyday carry pocket knife, your mind probably doesn’t immediately jump to cleaver. What makes a knife a cleaver anyway? Typically it’s a heavy, oversized blade that lets butchers chop through meat and bone. Massdrop’s collaboration with Ferrum Forge, the Buc, is a different take on the cleaver.

By most conventions, the Buc, (short for buccaneer), isn’t a cleaver at all. Its blade uses a modified sheepsfoot shape with an exaggerated curved belly. The belly and the hard angle where the spine drops to the point are reminiscent of cleavers, but the Buc draws more inspiration from curved sabers used by Asian cavalry. Both of these styles combine and harmonize in one handsome and distinctive pocket knife.

The Buc’s blade is 3.5 inches of high quality, satin-finished S35VN stainless steel. The handle is titanium and contains a replaceable frame-lock mechanism. The pocket clip, also made of titanium, is reversible for carrying on either leg.
