Did Nike Just Make the Perfect Training Shoe More Perfect?

Nike updates its ever-popular Metcon training shoe with five new upgrades.

Nike’s beloved Metcon first hit gyms in 2015 and since then has slowly taken over CrossFit boxes nationwide. The stiff outsole and breathable upper of the gym shoe make it a favorite of athletes for heavy lifting, cross training and rope climbs. The newest iteration, Metcon 5, is available today for NTC Pro Members and globally on July 8.

If you loved the Metcon 4, there’s quite a bit that’s different in the 5, but the brand claims athletes will love it even more. The upper is burlier with a haptic chain-link pattern that’s more durable; the tongue is plush for a better lock-down and feel; the heel widens, and men get an 8mm lift to increase stability during heavy lifting. The outsole features a stickier rubber in the toe for quick feet and a more durable rubber in the heel to withstand side-to-side movements. The one piece that stays the same? The heel clip.

Check out the newest Metcon in the Nike Pro App today, then shop on Nike.com come July 8.
