You Can Set up This Affordable New Tent in Seconds

Even with recent innovations in tent design, Decathlon’s forthcoming 2-Second Easy Tent aims to be the most user-friendly shelter available.

Tents are as easy to set up as they’ve ever been. Many use as few as two poles and some even have a single armature to fumble around with. Others use integrated rain flys and color-coding to make pitching as painless as possible, but none simplify the process quite like Decathlon’s forthcoming 2-Seconds Easy Tent.

The new tent makes its proposition clear in its name: it sets up easily and quickly. Two seconds isn’t an exaggeration either — all that’s required to go from sack to shelter is yanking on pull-cords fixed to both ends of the tent. Doing so pulls together the structure, which has space for two people. Campers don’t have to worry about the rainfly, which Decathlon tested in downpour conditions, because that’s built-in, but they will have to hammer in their ground stakes manually (that part takes a little longer).

The Easy Tent is roughly the size of a standard backpacking tent but is hefty at nearly 10 pounds (comparable models typically come in around four). The weight is a result of the setup apparatus as well as its materials, which Decathlon designed to handle regular wear and tear without fuss; the base material is waterproof and durable enough not to need an additional footprint, for instance. It’s not the sort of tent you’ll carry deep into the mountains, but the company says that’s okay — the Easy Tent is all about convenience and comfort.
