Your EDC is only as useful as you make it. It’s entirely up to you to decide how simple or complex you want it to be. While a barebones bag might be enough for some commuters, those who prefer a bit of organization might find that augmenting their main pack can actually help streamline and improve their day-to-day experience.

That’s where something like Aer’s Simple Kit comes in handy. This small bag works exceptionally well as an auxiliary option for storage and organization in a larger bag, yet it also functions beautifully as a small, speedy standalone.

Simply impressive

As its name suggests, the Simple Kit is extremely, well, simple. But that doesn’t mean it’s overly basic. Rather, the word I’d probably use is “minimalist.”

It tops out at 1.2 liters of storage. While that might not seem like a lot, you’d probably be surprised at how much can fit within those parameters. As an example, the brand has loaded its pockets with a mouse, portable hard drive, charging cable (and block,) laptop charger, earbuds (with a charging case) and AirTag — and there’s probably still room for more.

The loop on the end can be used to attach this bag to another pack, or it works as a carry handle for the kit itself.

For reference, that capacity is split between two pockets, both externally accessible and both zippered. The bag also has a small webbing loop on one of the top corners, which can be used as a grab handle or to attach the kit to another bag (inside or on the outside.)

That’s quite a lot of utility in such a small package, and it allows this bag to work wonders either on its own or as an additional kit in your existing bag. However, these elements aren’t even the most impressive things about it.

Weathering the commute

Here’s a wild fact: the Aer Simple Kit weighs just 0.1 pounds when empty. Pretty mind-blowing, right? Well, there’s a reason for that.

The bag is constructed from Challenge Sailcloth’s Ultra200X fabric, a specially engineered high-performance composite fabric — hence its lightweight nature. But being ultralight is only one impressive factor.

It’s also completely waterproof. Furthermore, the bag’s zippers are also designed to weather the weather, making the whole thing quite formidable even in a deluge.

As if that’s not enough, the extremely lightweight, waterproof exterior fabric is also resistant to tears, abrasions, punctures and more. Honestly, in normal use, you’d likely never be able to rip through it. You’d have to do it deliberately and, even then, it wouldn’t be an easy task.

Available now

Aer’s Simple Kit was released today, October 6, and is now available on the brand’s website for the highly affordable price of $39, in your choice of white or black.
