You know a pocket knife is a bona fide winner when the brand behind it consistently introduces new versions that retain the best features while adding fresh spins.

That’s very much the case with the Atlas, which is such a staple for Böker; more than two dozen variations are currently available on the brand’s site.

While the Atlas takes many forms, this new military-inspired treatment may be the most compelling yet.

Amidst that smorgasbord, the latest edition still manages to stand out from the pack, thanks in large part to its eponymous handle: the Böker Plus Atlas OD Green.

Army of one

As the name suggests, the highlight of this knife is the handle, which features ceramic-coated army green stainless steel.

The military vibes are hard to miss, though the knife itself is very much sized and shaped for EDC use, rather than tactical purposes.

Toward that end, the handle offers an ergonomic, grip-friendly shape, plus a reversible tip-up pocket clip and a lanyard hole for easy carry.

Along with the screws and rivets, those components are rendered in black, which nicely complements the handle’s hue.

Böker opted for a black PVD coating on the blade, the ideal choice for a knife with tactical vibes.

The business end, meanwhile, is a 2.95-inch drop-point blade made of Swedish 12C27 steel with a black, scratch-resistant PVD coating, making for a matte finish that’s consistent with the rest of the aesthetic.

While that blade material resides squarely in the budget category, it nonetheless offers above-average corrosion resistance, durability and sharpening ease.

Nail nick blades, which typically require two hands to open, are legal in more places than just about any other option.

Like previous editions of the Atlas, this one goes old school with its engineering, courtesy of a nail nick and a slipjoint mechanism.

These relatively uncomplicated elements help keep the overall weight refreshingly low, just 1.73 ounces.

Unfolded, the knife measures 6.61 inches, leaving plenty of room for a sure grip and a capable cutting edge.

The two-handed opening and non-locking nature, combined with a blade under three inches, also make this knife legal to carry just about anywhere, whether you’re in uniform or a T-shirt and shorts.
