Buck Knives’ 110 Folding Hunter might be the single most significant knife in American knifemaking history. It sits in the annals of EDC history alongside other greats, including the Swiss Army Knife, Japanese higonokami, and those offered by Opinel.

While there have been many takes on this iconic knife, the latest is especially significant. The Buck Knives x Code of the West 110 Folding Hunter gives this classic a Western frontier-inspired makeover that helps it stand out even among its venerated siblings.

American icon

At its core, this version of the 110 Folding Hunter retains much of what makes it such a classic knife, including its material makeup, mechanisms and specs.

The traditional clip-point blade, for instance, is made from 420HC stainless steel, measures 3.75 inches and sports a nail nick for easy manual deployment.

It’s an old-reliable configuration for a reason: it works.

The handle is similarly faithful to the knife series. The scales are made from Crelicam ebony, a sustainably sourced hardwood from Cameroon. And the bolsters are built from brass, as is typical.

The handle also houses the knife’s signature back lock — one of the oldest, most reliable locking mechanisms. This same lock has appeared on the 110 Folding Hunter for as long as it has been in production.

This is all to say that this version is up to par when compared to its siblings. It’s an old-reliable configuration for a reason: it works.

The wild, wild west

The real eye-catcher of this knife is its handle. Unsurprisingly, that’s where its biggest differences can be found.

For instance, the ebony scales are engraved with a special design: the Code of the West logo. Not only does this set it apart, but the engraved pattern serves to add some grip to the handle overall.

This collaboration is undoubtedly one of the most striking takes on the 110 Folding Hunter to come out in recent years

The most beautiful alteration, however, is found on the bolsters on both sides of those ebony scales. Unlike its minimalistic siblings, this knife’s bolsters get a stunning, engraved Western filigree-style pattern etched into their surfaces.

Like the scales, this adds some extra grip to the handle. But you’re not going to want to cover them up, as they’re so magnificently rendered. It’s a seemingly simple, small change, but it has a massive impact on the overall appearance of the knife.

This collaboration is undoubtedly one of the most striking takes on the 110 Folding Hunter to come out in recent years. Per Huckberry, “it’s a physical reminder of COTW’s message that the best life is one that’s earned, never given.”

You can never go wrong with a 110 Folding Hunter, but this one is pretty special.
