Just because the brand makes it look easy, let’s not take the combo of compelling qualities here for granted.

Over the past few years, no EDC knife brand has demonstrated a knack for overdelivering on looks and functionality at affordable prices quite like Civivi has.

Operating out of China’s renowned “City of Blades” (Yangjiang, Guangdong Province), the eight-year-old WE Knife spinoff has proven particularly adept at executing in the $50 to $100 window.

At 8.3 inches, the Pentad is sure to spark a conversation the next time you casually deploy it to slice an apple.

The latest example is on the lower end of that spectrum, but you wouldn’t guess it from the look and feel.

Dubbed the Pentad, it’s a tactically inspired, multi-deploying EDC banger costing just $64.

Pentad power

So what stands out with this knife? Let’s start with the business end, a full-bellied 3.48-inch clip-point blade made of reliable, budget-friendly Nitro-V steel.

For a reasonable amount of money, the 3.48-inch Nitro-V blade delivers everything most users need and more.

It’s never going to be mistaken for a super steel, but the nitrogen-alloyed material offers a blend of corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, toughness and edge retention that’s honestly more than enough for most users.

The handle offers a full four-fingered grip, with a finger choil and spine jimping easing detailed cuts.

While the Pentad comes in four treatments (including an $85 option that swaps in rippling Damascus steel), the most affordable is my favorite thanks to the badass black stonewashed finish.

The handle is equally attractive: generously sized, ergonomically shaped and outfitted with textured G10 draped in a teal green hue that maxes out the tactical vibes.

Whether you use the thumb studs or the rear flipper, the blade swings easily on a caged ceramic ball bearing.

At the heart of the action is a smooth, caged ceramic ball bearing ensuring swift deployment via your choice of the ambidextrous thumb studs or the rear flipper.

Rounding things out, a sturdy liner lock holds everything in place while the reversible tip-up pocket clip ensures this 4.5-ounce steal stays safely by your side till you need it.
