One of the best ways to score an excellent EDC knife for less is to look beyond the label to who is actually behind it.

Many times, more affordable brands are associated with higher-end ones and therefore benefit from a trickle-down effect.

This exact principle is on display with a compelling new release from Tenable, the Mini Warrior.

More than meets the eye

To appreciate this knife, it’s helpful to know that Tenable Knives is a spinoff of Kansept Knives, which was founded by Kim Ning, a veteran knife designer who previously worked for Kizer.

The Mini Warrior itself was designed by Ning, as was its predecessor, Kansept’s Warrior, which has variants once priced at ~$200 (though typically closer to $80 and now discounted on Kansept’s site).

Point is, this knife has a more distinguished pedigree than you might guess, with its proven design nicely complemented by a streamlined look that’s arguably cooler than the original Warrior’s.

The business end is a 2.9-inch drop-point blade made of Nitro-V, which is valued for its corrosion resistance and edge retention.

That makes this budget-friendly steel more than capable of crushing everyday cutting and slicing tasks.

The handle on the variant shown here (the cheapest option but also possibly the best-looking one) is made of textured G10 for a steady grip; other editions boast acrylic, micarta and twill carbon fiber/G10 construction.

An ambidextrous thumb stud and ball-bearing pivot ensure swift, smooth one-handed deployment, while a liner lock holds the blade steadily in place.
