An Iconic Japanese Brand Built the Ultimate Commuter EDC Bag in the Most Unexpected Way

Commuting, especially on public transport, can be trying. But it can be made easier and more enjoyable with the right gear.

Perhaps no brand knows this better than iconic Japanese outfit Porter. Maybe that’s why, in an ongoing celebration of its 90th anniversary, the brand has teamed up with an unlikely collaborator on what might be the year’s best one-two punch of EDC travel gear.

The Dyson x Porter OnTrac Limited-Edition Headphones and Shoulder Bag set is a daily commuter’s best friend, and it has “instant classic” written all over it.

Two parts, one whole

As you might’ve guessed, this release is actually a two-parter. It’s comprised of a travel-friendly Porter shoulder bag and a pair of hi-fi over-ear headphones from legendary British engineering brand Dyson.

But this isn’t just a slapped-together duo. There’s some important connective tissue between the two items that links them together conceptually and functionally.

For starters, they share 90th anniversary co-branding, as well as the same bold color scheme — a dark blue base with orange and green highlights.

For the bag, the body and shoulder strap are blue, while the nylon strap connectors and interior lining have dark green elements. For the headphones, the headband is dark blue, while the ear pads are dark green and have an orange lining.

They also both have their own unique elements. For the bag, the main zipper is bright yellow, and for the headphones, the exteriors of the cans are gunmetal gray.

Their styling and branding aren’t the only things that connect the two parts of this release. The headphones and hauler are also designed to pair together functionally.

Most notably, the bag features a dedicated headphone storage loop on its shoulder strap, allowing you to safely and securely store your headphones when not in use.

For reference, the headphones are a special-edition version of Dyson’s OnTrac over-ears. As such, they feature best-in-class noise canceling tech, 55 hours of battery life and intuitive controls.

Additionally, the bag is crafted from lightweight, durable nylon. That also means the bag is naturally weather-resistant and can fend off punctures and abrasions.

Pricing and availability

The Dyson x Porter OnTrac Limited-Edition Headphones and Shoulder Bag is being rolled out today, December 4, at Porter stores across Japan and China, and will also be offered for sale on the Dyson and Yoshida&Co. official online stores.

However, it’s priced at ¥118,690 (approximately $767) and only 380 examples are being offered worldwide, so it may be hard to come by.
