Packing for lightweight camping or backpacking trips requires discernment and editing, and luxuries are usually the first things to go.

But what if there were a gadget that brought convenience and power in a compact form factor?

That’s the idea behind Flextail’s latest Kickstarter campaign: the Tiny Pump 3X is a reworked, minimal air pump created to be ultra-powerful despite its size.

The good kind of inflation

Flextail isn’t just a Kickstarter special; founded in 2012 and officially launched in 2015, the brand has a sterling reputation and has been sold in major stores like REI for years.

Like the company that created it, the Tiny Pump 3X isn’t a brand-new product; this is a revision of Flextail’s existing air pump, but the new iteration delivers some substantial upgrades while minimizing its footprint.

At just 2.4 ounces, the Tiny Pump 3X is 30 percent lighter than its predecessor, inflates twice as fast, packs double the power and, with just one charge, can deliver 100-plus inflations for gear like camping pillows, sleeping pads and more.

Improved inflation pressure (5kPa versus 4kPa in the Tiny Pump 2,) plus better air flow allow for enhanced performance — and as a bonus, the new pump is even quieter than previous versions.

No more wasting time or energy inflating your sleeping pad — or deflating it, for that matter. This tool does both.

The pump comes with five nozzles that cover 90 percent of sleeping pad brands, from Therm-a-Rest to Nemo and almost everything in between.

It can deflate and vacuum as well, drawing air out in 20 seconds with a single click.

Shine on you crazy diamond air pump

This pocketable gadget doesn’t stop at inflation —it doubles as a fun-size lantern. The Tiny Pump 3X features five light modes, all featuring a warm 2700K soft-start glow.

The lowest setting can last 50 hours, while the three white levels (50lm / 120lm / 300lm) and a 400lm hybrid mode deliver calm and cozy light.

Availability and pricing

The Tiny Pump 3X has already raised nearly $70,000 — many times its modest $5,000 goal — with 22 days to go, but there’s still time to get in on the fun.

For Super Early Birds, the newest release from Flextail costs just $34, with an estimated delivery in January 2026.
