Flytanium is best known for its deep catalog of custom EDC knife parts, which allow you to comprehensively transform some of the knifemaking industry’s most iconic and popular folders. What you might not know is that the brand actually offers its own collection of complete knives, which are both well-designed and often surprisingly affordable.

Just this year, in fact, the brand dropped the Flytanium Arcade, a retro video game-inspired knife, and the Minim keychain folder.

Before both of those, however, the brand dropped an all-around outstanding value-packed knife called the Flytanium Beef at the tail-end of 2024. Now, that very same knife is making a triumphant comeback.

All killer, no filler

The true beauty of the Flytanium Beef is in its balance of value and affordability. It’s not a particularly showy knife, nor are its materials mind-blowing, but they don’t need to be. They just need to get the job done, and that’s exactly what they do.

For reference, the knife is priced at $60. By today’s standards, that’s squarely in the budget-friendly realm, verging on qualifying as an ultra-budget EDC knife (at least as far as trustworthy options are concerned.)

When you consider its reversible pocket clip, this knife is fully ambidextrous.

What you get for that price, however, is what’s really difficult to believe. This includes a 3.5-inch 14C28N blade (similar to Nitro-V, another affordable yet hard-working steel,) as well as G-10 handle scales.

The knife also comes with one of the trendiest, most reliable locking mechanisms of the moment: a crossbar. Along with being tough and strong, crossbar locks have the added benefit of ambidexterity. Furthermore, when you consider the blade’s dual thumb stud deployment and reversible pocket clip, the Beef is fully ambidextrous.

Dad shoes? No. Dad knife

In the everyday carry and outdoor knifemaking worlds, there’s a little bit of an obsession with pushing the possibilities to their limits. A couple of years ago, super steel was a hot trend; now, it’s almost commonplace.

The fact is, most EDCers don’t actually require the extraordinary capabilities offered by super high-end materials. They just need a solid, reliable, sturdy knife that gets the job done right the first time. That’s exactly what the Beef has to offer.

It’s also the reason the knife sold out so fast the first time it was released. And it’s likely to sell out super fast again, this go-around. That goes for the new Dark Moss colorway, too.

If you do have the wherewithal to get one for yourself (or if you already had one from last year,) you can also customize it further. Flytanium offers different scale colors, materials (like titanium,) replacement blades (with alternative steels, like D2 and S90V,) thumb studs, bearings and more.

If you’re already handy and into DIY, this is a great way to personalize your knife. If you’re a newbie and interested in learning about knife customization, this is a pretty affordable way to give it your first try.
